Why We Built GetSalesClaw: The $99/mo AI SDR Story
I was about to pay $10,000 per month for an AI SDR.
My co-founder sent me the 11x.ai pricing page. We were bootstrapped, barely past product-market fit, and struggling to keep up with outbound. We needed help, but $120K/year for automated cold emails felt insane.
That's when we decided to build GetSalesClaw.
The problem: AI SDRs are priced for enterprises, not founders
Look at the AI SDR market in early 2026. The big players charge between $8K and $15K per month. 11x.ai, Artisan, AISDR - all incredible products, but all priced like enterprise SaaS.
For a VC-backed company with a sales team and a $2M Series A? That's fine. For a bootstrapped founder doing outbound solo? That's a non-starter.
We looked at the alternatives:
- Hiring an SDR: $60K-$80K/year base + commission + onboarding time
- Doing it yourself: 10-15 hours/week for prospecting, writing, follow-ups
- Cold email tools (Reply.io, Outreach): $200-$500/mo but still manual work
- AI SDRs: $10K/mo - out of reach
There was a massive gap. Founders needed automation. They couldn't afford $10K/mo. And they didn't have time to manage complex cold email workflows themselves.
What we learned from running outbound for 3 years
Before building GetSalesClaw, I ran outbound for a B2B SaaS company in Europe. Here's what I learned:
1. Most founders don't need full autonomy. The pitch for AI SDRs is "set it and forget it." But most founders I talked to didn't want that. They wanted help, not a black box. They wanted to review emails before they went out. They wanted control.
2. Personalization at scale is hard, but not $10K/mo hard. Tools like 11x.ai use GPT-4 or Claude to write personalized emails. That's powerful. But the OpenAI API costs $0.03 per 1K tokens. Even with aggressive usage, you're looking at $50-$200/mo in AI costs for a typical use case. The rest is margin.
3. European founders care about GDPR compliance. Most AI SDR tools are built in the US. They treat GDPR as a checkbox. But European founders need to actually comply, not just claim compliance in the footer. That means legitimate interest documentation, opt-out mechanisms, and data residency.
4. The "human touch" still matters. AI can draft emails. It can find leads. It can personalize at scale. But the best results come from human review. A founder who spends 10 minutes per day approving emails will outperform a fully autonomous AI every time.
Why $99/mo is the right price
When we set the price for GetSalesClaw, we reverse-engineered the value.
A solo founder doing outbound spends roughly:
- 5 hours/week prospecting and list-building
- 3 hours/week writing and personalizing emails
- 2 hours/week managing follow-ups and tracking replies
That's 10 hours per week. At $100/hour founder time (conservative), that's $1,000/week, or $4,000/month in opportunity cost.
GetSalesClaw automates 90% of that work. You review. You approve. You refine. But the grunt work - prospecting, drafting, scheduling, follow-ups - is handled.
So the question became: what price captures that value without being inaccessible?
We tested $49, $99, $149, and $199. Here's what we found:
- $49/mo: Too cheap. People assumed it was low-quality or unsustainable.
- $99/mo: The sweet spot. Affordable for bootstrapped founders. Expensive enough to signal quality.
- $149/mo: Good for teams. But a barrier for solo founders.
- $199/mo: Starting to compete with Reply.io and traditional tools. Lost the "accessible AI SDR" positioning.
We landed on $99/mo for the base plan, with $149/mo for teams that need higher volume or advanced features. Compared to $10K/mo competitors, it's 100x cheaper. Compared to hiring an SDR, it's 1/8th the cost.

The human-in-the-loop decision
We debated this one for weeks. Should GetSalesClaw be fully autonomous like 11x.ai? Or should it require human approval?
We chose human-in-the-loop for three reasons:
1. Trust. Founders told us they were nervous about AI sending emails on their behalf. "What if it says something stupid?" "What if it misrepresents our product?" Fair concerns. With human-in-the-loop, you review every email before it goes out. You catch mistakes. You refine the tone. You stay in control.
2. Accuracy. AI is good, but not perfect. Claude can write a great cold email 80% of the time. But 20% of the time, it needs a tweak. A sentence that's too formal. A claim that's slightly off. A CTA that doesn't match your current offer. Human review fixes that.
3. Learning. When you review AI-generated emails, you learn what works. You see which personalization hooks get replies. You refine your ICP. You improve your messaging. Fully autonomous AI hides that feedback loop. Human-in-the-loop keeps you engaged.
The result? GetSalesClaw users spend 5-10 minutes per day reviewing and approving emails. Not 10 hours per week writing from scratch. That's the balance we were looking for.
Why we chose Claude AI over GPT-4
Most AI SDR tools use OpenAI's GPT-4. We use Anthropic's Claude. Here's why:
Better writing quality. Claude is known for more natural, less "AI-sounding" text. In cold email, that matters. You don't want prospects reading your email and thinking "this was obviously written by a bot."
Constitutional AI. Anthropic's approach to safety and alignment means Claude is less likely to generate spammy, overly aggressive, or inappropriate content. That's important when your reputation is on the line.
European trust. Anthropic has a stronger reputation among European founders for privacy and ethics. That aligns with our GDPR-first positioning.
We tested both models side-by-side. Claude had higher reply rates, fewer "this feels like spam" flags, and better tone consistency. The choice was clear.
What we're building next
GetSalesClaw launched in early 2026. We're still early. Here's what we're working on:
- Deeper CRM integration: HubSpot, Pipedrive, and Salesforce sync
- Multi-channel outreach: LinkedIn + email sequences
- Team collaboration: Shared inboxes, approval workflows, reply handling
- Deliverability monitoring: Real-time spam score checks and domain health tracking
- Data-driven insights: Reply rate benchmarks, A/B testing, and performance analytics
We're not trying to build the most feature-rich AI SDR. We're trying to build the most useful one for founders who can't afford $10K/mo tools but still want enterprise-grade outbound.
Who GetSalesClaw is for (and who it's not for)
GetSalesClaw works best for:
- Solo founders doing outbound themselves
- Small teams (2-5 people) without a dedicated SDR
- Bootstrapped companies that need to be capital-efficient
- European B2B startups that need GDPR-compliant automation
- Founders who want control over their outbound messaging
GetSalesClaw is not for:
- Enterprises with large sales teams and complex workflows (try 11x.ai or Salesforce Agentforce)
- Founders who want full autonomy and don't want to review emails
- High-volume senders (10K+ emails/month) - we're optimized for quality over quantity
The honest truth about building an AI SDR
Building GetSalesClaw has been harder than I expected. Not because the tech is hard (it's not - Claude's API is excellent). But because sales automation is a trust problem, not a technology problem.
Founders are nervous about AI sending emails on their behalf. They've been burned by spammy cold email tools. They've seen AI-generated text that sounds robotic. They're skeptical.
That's why we focus on transparency. You see every email before it goes out. You see the AI's reasoning. You see the personalization hooks it used. You stay in control.
The result? Higher reply rates, better-quality conversations, and founders who actually trust their AI SDR.
Why we're betting on accessible AI
The AI SDR market is going to get crowded. More tools will launch. Prices will come down. Features will converge.
But I believe there's a huge, underserved market of founders who:
- Can't afford $10K/mo enterprise AI SDRs
- Don't have time to run manual cold email campaigns
- Want AI to help them, not replace them
That's who we built GetSalesClaw for. And that's who we'll keep building for.
